OHIO AVIATION ASSOCIATION COMMENDS THE GOVERNOR
FOR INCLUDING GENERAL AVIATION IN HIS BUDGET

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Aviation Association applauds Governor DeWine’s support for the continued investment in general aviation airports as noted in his recently released recommended budget for fiscal years 2020-2021. The recommended budget for Airport Improvements is approximately $5.9 million annually. The Ohio Aviation Association, and our members, are appreciative of Governor DeWine’s commitment to the State’s aviation infrastructure included in his first State budget.

Ohio airports provide a vital service to communities and are economic engines both county and state-wide. There are 97 general aviation airports in Ohio that are a part of the National Plan of Integrated Airports System or part of the Ohio Airports System Plan. General aviation activities contribute approximately $30 million annually into the State's General Revenue Fund. Airports in Ohio support more than 123,000 jobs and produce an economic impact that exceeds $13 billion annually.

Ohio’s general aviation airports continue to have needs. In recent years, fiscal years 2017 – 2019, the funding requests for the State’s direct grant program totaled $61.1 million however only $11.7 million was able to be funded (source: ODOT Aviation).

"We thank the Governor for continuing to fund airport improvements at Ohio's general aviation airports," said Lance Wanamaker, President of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Aviation Association. "The users of the airport system contribute significantly to Ohio’s economy and general revenue fund. The Governor's recommended budget is a great start to reinvesting those resources into Ohio's airport system."
